Dear {contact.first_name} {contact.last_name}, As we present this new edition of the BRAVEST newsletter, it is essential to reflect on both our progress and the barriers that still hinder the advancement of science. BRAVEST was conceived with a clear and ambitious purpose: to harness real-world data to strengthen transplantation and advanced therapies in times of crisis, ensuring that patients remain protected and that our health systems remain resilient. One of the most striking lessons from this journey has been the tension between the urgent need for data-driven science and the legal and administrative hurdles that impede its progress. The GDPR framework was designed to safeguard individuals : a goal we fully support; and for this, ESOT has invested substantially in its full compliance over the past years. But the way it is implemented across Europe has too often created fragmentation and delay, holding back essential research that ultimately protects those very same patients. In a project like BRAVEST, where every dataset can translate into better preparedness and improved patient outcomes, this barrier has been felt deeply. Through persistence, collaboration, and dedication, the consortium has now found a way forward. This resolution is more than an administrative achievement; it is a statement of what is possible when partners refuse to let obstacles derail a common vision. It demonstrates that we can uphold the highest ethical and legal standards without compromising the pace of research. The next step is the signing of the Data Sharing Agreement, which will allow us to fully launch data collection and deliver the impact BRAVEST was designed for. This breakthrough gives us renewed energy to move into the final stages of the project, and to ensure that its results not only serve transplantation but also set a precedent to find pathways that in the interest of patients may facilitate the gathering of health records balancing appropriately privacy protection and improvement of scientific knowledge. |
